Get Safe Work Safe - Safety and Health for Senior Cycle Students

This course will introduce Transition Year (TY) and Senior Cycle (SC) students to the principles of workplace safety, health and welfare. It aims to prepare young people for the world of work. This course forms part of the HSA, National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NCCA) approved, Transition Unit programme.

Course Duration: 90 minutes.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this  course you should be able to:

• Have a better understanding of your responsibility

in the workplace.

• Recognise different types of hazards and effective ways

to prevent accidents from occurring in the workplace.

• Identify how risks can be controlled, how to plan safety

statements, and how to report accidents and incidents.

Chemical Safety in the Workplace

This introductory course provides information on the identification  and risk assessment of chemicals in the workplace.  The course is aimed at employers and employees including supervisors and health and safety representatives.

Course duration: 30 minutes

Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

• differentiate between hazardous/non-hazardous chemicals

• identify ways hazardous chemicals can enter the body

• recognise Inventory chemicals; their hazards, uses,

frequency of use, storage conditions and volumes

• find information on chemicals through the use of labels and SDSs

• examine risk and determine possible risk reduction measures using the hierarchy of control

Chemical Safety in the Workplace – Level 2

This course follows on from the ‘Chemical Safety in the Workplace’ introductory course. The course is Level 2 and covers the following key topics:

• Understanding Hazard Information

• Labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)

• Managing Chemical Safety

Course duration: 30 minutes

Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

• recognise hazard pictograms

• understand hazard label information

• use Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to find information on hazards and protective measure

• understand the legal obligations of suppliers and employers
