Managing Safety and Health in the Science Laboratory

This course will help teachers of the Science subjects to improve their knowledge and understanding of safety, health and welfare within the science laboratory.

Course Duration: 140 minutes.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course you should be able to:

• Identify hazards and risks in the science laboratory.

• Identify with laboratory rules and they types of

accidents that can occur in a laboratory.

• Implement practices to prevent these accidents.

• Identify physical, chemical, and biological hazards.

• Manage a science laboratory in a safe manner.

Managing Safety and Health in the Technologies Classroom

This course was developed as an aid to teachers of technology subjects, at post-primary level, to help them in their understanding of managing safety, health and welfare within the technology classroom.

Course Duration: 140 minutes.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course you should be able to:

• Identify key hazards in the technology classroom.

• Identify the measures required to prevent accidents.

• Understand safe working practices, the safety

statement, safety consultation and how to conduct a

health and safety audit.

• Plan for fire safety and emergencies.

• Recognise key requirements in relation to first aid, ergonomics,

chemical solvents and adhesives, and safety legislation.
