Building our Professional Learning Community through shared practice and professional dialogue.

Eilís Leddy (Director of Schools) and Sinead O’Hara (Education Coordinator)

September 13th and 14th saw the return of Mike Hughes, free-lance trainer, coach, and author of The Magenta Principles, to work with teachers from across our colleges and centres.

During the academic year 2016-2017, Mike delivered three 1 Day workshops to a group of over 40 of our teachers. This year, a further 35 teachers will take part in the Magenta Principles programme. In addition, a large number of participants from last year’s group are now taking part in an intensive coaching programme with Mike Hughes. Mike specialises in effective teaching and learning approaches, coaching and developing coaching skills in others, and facilitating information driven dialogue among teachers.

He is the author of a number of highly acclaimed and hugely influential books, including The Magenta Principles, Tweak to Transform, Closing the Learning Gap, And the Main Thing is...Learning and Coaching in Schools.

The focus of our workshops is to work together to make small changes to practice which, in turn, make a big difference to performance. Our aim is to facilitate learning in a way that excites and engages both students and teachers. In short, we are encouraged to “Tweak to Transform” teaching and learning. Through coaching, our intention to build capacity from within and tap into the wealth of teaching talent in our colleges.

The workshop days were highly interactive, practical and thought-provoking and were very well-received by participants. We are already looking forward to Day 2 in November.
