Hunter Family Wins Farming Heritage Award
The Charles Hunter family, of Monongalia County, were chosen as the ninth recipients of the Farming
Heritage Award, sponsored by West Virginia Farm Bureau and the the State Fair of West Virginia. The award
is presented to a worthy family who has demonstrated a commitment to a rural lifestyle, been involved in their
community, and served as role models to others in the state.
Since 1927, six generations have continued the operation of Hunter’s Dairy Farm through hard work,
dedication, strength and love of the land. Today, Hunter’s farm stands as the only privately owned dairy farm
in Monongalia County and is actively involved as a learning farm for students from West Virginia University.
The Hunters were honored at a luncheon ceremony on Thursday, August 14, which is traditionally
“Governor’s Day” at the State Fair. The family enjoyed a full day at the Fair, including free admission and
preferred parking, as well as overnight accommodations. They were also presented with a Natural Stone
Sign award, engraved with the name of their farm. Pictured above following the ceremony, from left to
