In 1986 , our company was just seven years old , but Larry was already concerned that helping employees feel involved and connected would be more and more difficult as the company continued to grow . He saw a company magazine as a way of preserving the sense of family and company spirit . Now 35 years later , Winning Spirit Magazine continues to document company history — like a family history album — and connects employees across the portfolio of companies .

The magazine has evolved over the years , including the most recent shift to a digital-first format . Still , its mission remains the same : to increase employee engagement , celebrate milestones , and share news and stories that build upon the rich company culture .
This edition captures one of the most transformational times in the history of the Larry H . Miller Group of Companies . In the last year , the Larry H . Miller Group has begun to change its focus and shown its ability to be agile , have foresight , and maintain our commitment to our mission of enriching lives .
We have executed some strategic changes from our core businesses over the last year , totaling nearly $ 5 billion . In December 2020 , we sold the Utah Jazz to Ryan and Ashley Smith . They became the stewards of this unique Utah treasure , which is a powerful community asset and a catalyst for creating unity and doing good in so many ways .
And in September 2021 , having achieved the distinction of being listed as the secondlargest privately owned auto dealership group in the nation , we announced our intent to sell that automotive group of more than 60 dealerships to a national , publicly owned powerhouse , the Asbury Automotive Group .
After 42 years in the auto business , we ’ re turning our attention to new horizons . In December last year , our family purchased Advanced Health Care , a group of 22 skilled nursing facilities in eight states that focus on post-surgical acute care , along with home health and hospice services .
In April 2021 , we purchased over 1300 acres of undeveloped land in Daybreak , located in South Jordan , Utah . We are continuing to build planned communities in an inclusive , solutionoriented , and sustainable manner .
These strategic transactions will increase our family ’ s ability to continue to invest in our foundation and philanthropic efforts . We believe that being in business is a means to doing good !
