How would you describe yourself to someone who doesn ’ t know you ? I think I ’ m really a regular guy , especially when I stay at home . I like training with some friends . I like to train with my personal trainer . Arturo Di Mezza . A special guy for me and a former Olympian . I also like to stay a lot with my family . My father , my mother . Always I eat with them during the weekend , every day . I don ’ t like too much to go to party or dances . I like to go for lunch , for dinner with friends . I prefer to stay at home a little bit more and relax , watch the sea . Normally my ‘ rule ’ is get up , go training , go to home , eat with my mom , help a little bit my wife Christina .
Is your wife also your rider assistant ? Yes , during the weekend she is my assistant . But she stops on Sunday evening … she tells me , “ I ’ m finished working for you now !”
Not every rider is married so what ’ s that like ? We are one year married , but we have been together more than ten years . She ’ s very special because she understands me . It ’ s normal that when you do the world championship and stay focused on the race , the humour is not always happy . Sometimes down , sometimes up . She does not stress me , she keeps me calm , keeps me easy . She ’ s very good for me and my mentality .
You are from Napoli ; not really a centre of Italian bike racing , maybe ? It ’ s a big city but all people look only to football , not to me . The circuits are very far away . The closest is Vallelunga , 250 kilometers for me . When I go to Misano , it ’ s 500 kilometers . It ’ s not really my home !
Where is the favourite place that you have been to ? For sure my home is the best . But this winter I go with Fabio Di Giannantonio to Los Angeles . I like California . Also Portugal . But California I like - Los Angeles , San Diego . I think it has everything I like . Motocross , big trucks , space , the sea , the beach …

¿ Cómo te describirías a alguien que no supieste quien eres ? Creo que soy un tipo normal , especialmente cuando estoy en casa . Me gusta salir a entrenar con los amigos y con mi entrenador personal Arturo Di Mezza , ex deportista olímpico , un tipo especial . También me encanta quedarme con mi familia , mi padre , mi madre ; siempre como con ellos durante el fin de semana , todos los días . No me gusta demasiado ir a fiestas o bailes . Me gusta salir a comer y a cenar con los amigos . Prefiero quedarme un poco más en casa y relajarme , mirar el mar . Normalmente mi rutina es después de levantarme ir a entrenar , volver a casa , comer con mi mamá , ayudar un poco a mi esposa Christina .
¿ Tu esposa es también es asistente en las carreras ? Sí , durante el fin de semana ella es mi asistente personal . Pero el domingo por la noche deja de hacerlo y me dice : "¡ Ya he terminado de trabajar para ti !".
No todos los pilotos están casados , ¿ cómo es eso ? Llevamos un año casados , pero estamos juntos desde hace más de diez . Ella es muy especial porque me entiende . Cuando haces el mundial y te concentras en las carreras es normal que no estés siempre de buen humor . A veces subes , a veces bajas . Ella no me estresa , me mantiene tranquilo y relajado . Es muy buena para mí y mi mentalidad .
Eres de Nápoles , que no es precisamente uno de los centros de competición de motos italiano ... Es una ciudad grande , pero todo el mundo está pendiente del fútbol , nadie se fija en mi . Todos los circuitos quedan muy lejos . El más cercano , Vallelunga , me supone hacer 250 kilómetros . Cuando voy a Misano es el doble , 500 kilómetros . ¡ Realmente no es mi hogar !

How much of an inspiration personally is Toprak and Kenan for you ? Actually we are always training together . Kenan is the master . He is teaching us . He is explaining things to us . When I am training with them , I ’ m always looking to them and watch what they are doing in the corners and in difficult situations . Mostly I am training with Toprak . Kenan likes to watch us outside of the circuit to see . He is looking for the mistakes and teaching us ‘ you are to do this , change this .’ So I ’ m really happy that we can use Kenan ’ s track and I can make training with a world champion .
Those social media videos of you guys training on the small bikes and stuff at home … Are they as much fun to make as they are for us to watch ? Actually , both of them are fun . When you watch it ’ s lot of fun and when you ride it ’ s also fun . But it ’ s small bikes , 250cc , and we have some protection on the bike . When we crash , we can pick them up and can continue .
Kenan is obviously your family , so do you feel some pressure when you come to this paddock with that name ? For sure yes . After him , I ’ m the only one from the family . So , the same group . It makes some pressure . But when I reached the podium and I did some races , the pressure went down .
You are still quite young , so you haven ’ t been everywhere in the world . Where would you most like to go to see ? Actually for me , I like my country . I don ’ t really want to go anywhere . Also in my house is the same . I like more calm areas . I don ’ t like parties . I don ’ t like many people around . For me it ’ s better alone - to stay with my family . Also I don ’ t like to make holidays . I want to work every day . I like to work every day . For me , a holiday is take a break with no-one else there .
Where do you see yourself in five years ? I can ’ t say this . If I continue , everything is good , it should be MotoGP™ . We will see .

¿ Hasta que punto Toprak y Kenan son tus grandes referentes como piloto ? Siempre entrenamos juntos . Kenan es el maestro . Nos enseña y nos explica como funcionan las cosas . Yo les miro y me fijo mucho en lo que hacen en las curvas y en las situaciones difíciles . Sobre todo entreno con Toprak . A Kenan le gusta observarnos desde fuera de la pista para ver qué tal lo hacemos . Detecta nuestros errores y luego nos aconseja ' debes hacer esto , cambiar lo otro '. Así que estoy encantado de poder rodar en el circuito de Kenan y entrenar con un campeón mundial .
Esos videos que hay en las redes sociales en los que entrenáis con motos pequeñas en casa ... ¿ son tan divertidos de hacer como de verlos nosotros ? Las dos cosas . Mirarlos es muy divertido y pilotarlas las motos también . Pero son motos pequeñas , de 250 cc , y van más o menos protegidas para las caídas . Cuando nos vamos al suelo podemos volver a montarlas y continuar pilotándolas .
Kenan es obviamente familiar tuyo ¿ sientes cierta presión en el paddock por llevar ese nombre ? Sin duda alguna . Después de él , soy el único de la familia . Estamos en el mismo grupo . Si , hay algo de esta presión que mencionas . Pero en cuanto hice algunas carreras y conseguí mi primer podio la presión bajó .
Eres bastante joven así que hay muchos sitios en los que aún no has estado ¿ Adónde te gustaría ir ? En realidad , me gusta mi país . Realmente no quiero ir a ningún lado . También pasa lo mismo con mi casa . Me gustan las zonas tranquilas . No me gustan las fiestas , ni tener a mucha gente a mi alrededor . Para mí es mejor estar solo , quedarme con mi familia . Además , no me gusta ir de vacaciones . Quiero trabajar todos los días . Me gusta trabajar todos los días . Para mí , unas vacaciones son tomarse un descanso y dejar de ver a gente alrededor .
¿ Dónde te ves a ti mismo dentro de cinco años ? Esto es algo que no te puedo decir . Si sigo adelante y todo va bien debería ser en MotoGP™ . Bueno , ya lo veremos ...
