GET TO KNOW WorldSBK
ALEX LOWES
KAWASAKI RACING TEAM WorldSBK
What has been your greatest racing achievement ? Probably finishing third in WorldSBK in 2009 , because it is over a full season . I think more than winning BSB - which also meant a lot to me . I am not taking anything away from the BSB championship but the difference in level was massive when I moved up to WorldSBK .
Racing number of any significance ? My mum was born on the 22nd of November . My brother Sam was racing in WorldSSP with the number 11 , but when he went to Moto2 Sandro Cortese already had number 11 , so it then became 22 for both of us .
Favourite circuit ? If I had to race one circuit for the rest of my life , it would be Brno . I felt it was a track that if you got it nailed , it was so much fun to ride . On the current calendar , I do enjoy Phillip Island .
Did you ever have a real job ? When I left school I started working with my dad . He is an industrial electrician , so working in concrete plans , quarries , pulling big three core cables around . I was still working when I won my first BSB race …
Who is your racing hero ? I have two . One would be Troy Bayliss , because I loved how he rode and he was doing great when I was getting into Superbike racing . But before that , Mick Doohan . He liked to destroy everyone in every session .
Favourite genre of film ? Action comedy . Not full comedy where it is a bit stupid , but Mission Impossible and that sort of stuff .
What were you best at in school ? I quite enjoyed school , and Dad made sure we knew that we had to work hard at school to go racing . I used to be quite good at maths . I think it is one of those subjects where you either get numbers or you find it very difficult .

Do you have any pets ? Yes , but they stay in Valencia with my parents . I have three cats , plus two dogs and one horse . And my Mum has a cat … and my brother has a cat also . The horse is more his , because it is in Valencia and I am in Andorra .
Did you ever have a ‘ real ’ job ? Not really , honestly . But my Dad had a small company checking the structural integrity of buildings , and for a few summers I went to help him . My brother did it first because he is older than me . At first my Dad said , said “ no , no , you cannot do it ,” but then he said OK . I just did some helping , some cleaning .
Your racing number has any great significance ? It is for Carlos Checa . I followed his career many times . I like seven and I liked Checa . And when he won the WorldSBK Championship for me that was like crazy . I have a photo of me with him on his 500cc two stroke when I was two years old . And also seven was the number of David Villa , the football player .
Most treasured possession ? In this moment I have my 2005 ( I think ) CRF450 , when I won a championship in 2015 . We had to sell that bike to get money to buy new bikes for training back then , but two years ago we bought exactly that same bike again , and my Dad prepared it exactly the same as when we won the championship …
Your favourite food ? I like pizza a lot . Honestly I try to manage this , but I like to go eat this with my friends , or alone . If my nutritionist tells me I have one day free , I go to eat Pizza .
Who is your non-racing hero ? My heroes are my parents because both stay with me in every moment , when I struggle , when I am happy , when I am crying . I have these two people in my life who help me in my life in many cases .
