American Red Cross Group Swim Instruction at the Weinstein JCC

Parent and Child Aquatics Level 1 & 2
American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics is designed for children between the ages of 6 months and approximately 3 years, and their parents. Parent and Child Aquatics introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents learn how to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Children receive an introduction to basic skills that lay a foundation for learning to swim.

Preschool Level 1
Preschool Level 1 orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatics skills. These skills include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, submerging, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front and back gliding, back floating, rolling from front to back and back to front, alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front and back, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age – appropriate water safety skills.

Preschool Level 2
Preschool Level 2 helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around water. Skills to be taught include entering and exiting the water, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front floating, back gliding and floating, rolling from front to back and back to front, treading water using arms and legs, combining arm and leg actions on front and back, finning arm action on back and age – appropriate water safety skills.

If your child is a full-day JCC Preschool student, then a JCC staff member will pick up from their preschool classrooms. Parents / guardians will need to pick their swimmers from the pool.
