Jewish Family Theatre’ s Production of Guys and Dolls

Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls opened on Broadway in 1950 and ran for 1,200 performances, receiving nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics and winning a bevy of awards, including Tony Awards, Drama Desks and Oliviers. Frequently revived, the show has been done with numerous allstar casts, including productions / concerts featuring Ewan McGregor, Jane Krakowski, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jessica Biel. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and set in Damon Runyon’ s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Eventually everyone ends up right where they belong!

Written by Arthur Miller in 1994, Broken Glass. centers around Sylvia Gellburg, a Jewish woman in 1938 Brooklyn who suddenly becomes paralyzed after becoming obsessed with news reports of Nazi violence in Germany. As her condition baffles doctors, it exposes the deep fractures in her marriage to her denial – prone, self – hating husband, Phillip, and the broader societal pressures of assimilation and Jewish identity in America. The play, named after Kristallnacht explores the profound psychological and social impact of global events on personal lives and relationships.
