Turbulence She was standing in the dusty and crowded airport counter waiting to be attended. A smile drifted in her face. All you could see in her was pure happiness. She was wearing the usual black Kipling travel backpack and classic, once-white converse. “Good morning, could you please give me a confirmation number and passport”, the lady in the depressing blue suite said. It was very evident that she did not enjoy her work. She talked like a robot and never showed a smile to any of her clients. In fact, she was mean and could intimidate anyone by just using her eagle eyes. Immediately, she took out the passport that had a clear label on it that said, México. Then, she gave it to the lady and she inspected the picture as carefully as she possibly could. Madeline had grown a lot and did not look like the girl in the picture. In fact, she did not have the smooth baby face that represented her on the picture. She was now full of pimples and had a greasy face. Meanwhile, the lady worked as a tortoise - ignoring that the line at the Aeromexico station had at least fifty more people. After a tremendous long time, the lady gave Madeline the passport and her boarding pass. She needed to head to gate thirty-five and was boarding at ten past eleven. That meant that she only had thirty minutes for herself before embarking herself on the best journey ever. Time passed. And it was time for Madeline to board. Excitement took over her and made her be the first person to board the two hundred people boing. She has assigned seat 3A; it was a first class seat. Everything was turning out perfectly as planned. She was on time. Was seated in the plane. Hadn’t forgot anything. But then, the flight-attendant made an announcement. “Attention please, our flight is going to depart a bit off schedule because of mechanical issues. Please stay calm and be patient, thanks”. Madeline at first was calm, but then she remembered that she had an appointment with her sister in Paris at noon. Now, everything started to change according to her plans. All the time she had taken to plan and schedule with her sister for her to not miss a lot of work time had now turned into work in vain. After almost two hours of extreme mental breakdown and anxiety, the plane was about to depart. Madeline was ready. She had already said her prayings and was about to fall asleep and enjoy the pleasant flight that awaited her. The plane departed and no turbulence affected it, in fact, it was the best departure Madeline had experienced. After five hours of flight, the first service came. The flight attendant offered Madeline a delicious and juicy roast beef with boiled vegetables accompanied by a piece of croissant and an “natural” orange juice. It seemed delicious, but then remembered plane food is never that good. Madeline was starving so the roast beef tasted as described, it was the best she had eaten in years. When she finished she decided to find out where in the world was the plane flying over of. So she clicked on the screen in front her seat and clicked the app that had the map symbol logo. The map said that the plane was flying over New York City and had an approximate altitude of 12,000 feet. It was amazing she could literally inform herself without bothering the flight attendant to give her that type of information. Wow technology 9 of 33
