concentrate feeding to these birds. Last year, she
made a Self Help Group “SAHEE” and motivated
other lady farmers also. Recently, she was called
by All India Radio, Dharamshala to share her
experience in “Kisan Vani” programme.
In her sixties, Prem Lata, has taken backyard
poultry farming as a venture and now she brings
chicks from HP Agricultural University Farm
@ Rs 26/- per bird. She rears these birds and sells
eggs and birds to meet her family demands. In
addition she motivates the unemployed youth
and members of Mahila Mandal to take up this
vocation. She says “Poultry farming is such a
vocation where one gets regular daily income to
meet out day to day expenses of the family and is
very suitable for widow farmers and other small
and marginal farmers as it involves minimal
inputs”.

Backyard Poultry has supported Prem Lata to improve her socio-economic
status and others can take a cue out of it and learn to fight adverse
circumstances and come out as a winner.
