Press Kits
Feature Your Book or
I recall a conversation with my former publicist where she stated, "Paper press kits
are a thing of the past. No one uses them
anymore because they prefer the electronic version." This was my first time working
with a publicist so I was inclined to take
her at her word. However, I discovered
very quickly this is not entirely true. While
the electronic press kit made things easier
in her world, it didn't in mine.
When it came to scheduling appearances
in bookstores, I was always asked for two
things; a hard copy of my book and some
information about it. The bookstore owners wanted something tangible in their
hands to determine if my product was
right for their consumers. My paper press
kit which accompanied my book received
more compliments and opened more doors
than I could have imagined. I received
compliment after compliment on the professionalism of my presentation. In addition, I was told how most authors just send
their book with contact information and
maybe a sales sheet. These owners expressed those presentations didn't allow
them to get to know the author so they declined to allow those authors to make an
appearance at their store.

While the world of internet has opened
some great doors to communication, it appears it can't and won't replace the sense
of a genuine connection. Let's face it; a
genuine connection is needed and we are
in the business of providing this as authors!
I look forward to your comments and suggestions! - Until then…
