Another year of such excellent articles by our regular columnists
and guests. I always say you get the best information from people
who are actively working in the field. We are the ones who are
experiencing the challenges and successes just about every day.

of October I headed down to Los Angeles to give
workshops at the “Memories Are Made of This” Genre LA
Conference presented by West Coast Writers Conferences. I gave
two well attended workshops - Lots of very good comments
afterwards.
I’ve been invited to be one of the instructors for the Henderson
Library District’s Writers Retreat at Lake Las Vegas NV on February
28, 2016, and will be giving a 3 hour workshop on memoirs. I’ve
had lots of experience with several types of memoirs, written for
other people and myself. They encompass a traditional memoir
such as La Bella Mafia and Can We Come and Laugh, Too?,
memoir as fiction retaining about 90% reality—Confessions of a
Cougar, and from 25%-50% reality like Ripoff and Bumping Off
Fat Vinny, and Betrayed, pure fiction inspired by reality. See, there
are so many ways to use those experiences that have been living
in your head. I’m currently working on the fascinating true story
mentioned in Morgan’s Corner in the last issue, so check out the
Life Story feature this month for a peek at what part of it is about.

And then there is the series that was the start of my transitioning
from writing newspaper articles and magazine articles to books—
the Silver Sisters Mysteries series. On the November 11 Writers
Tricks of the Trade radio show on Blog Talk Radio we did a whole
show about what you need to know about free Kindle promotions
based upon the successful free promotion I did for A CORPSE IN
THE SOUP from November 4-8. Lots of facts and figures, plus what
I discovered and learned, and the amount of work I had to put into
making it into the Top Free 100 and winding up with nearly 4,000
downloads. You can listen to the podcast by clicking the link

Speaking of Silver Sisters Mysteries, when I work on a book that is
intense like one of the True Crime memoirs, I really have to also
work on something funny. So my co-author for the series, my
