Speaking of memoirs, I’m working on a new book entitled “Ten Minutes More,”
the joint memoir of Cheryl Pierson Cuccio and Rob Cuccio. Their intertwined
story is nothing short of amazing. In 1986, after hearing about a woman who
had her abusive husband killed, sixteen year old Cheryl, who had been
physically, mentally and sexually abused by her father from the time she was
eleven, asked a classmate “Who would kill someone for pay?” To her surprise,
he said “I would if the price was right,” and thus began the surreal journey that
ended in her father’s death. The case dominated media nationally and Cheryl
and her classmate were found guilty of murder. Her boyfriend, Rob Cuccio,
stood by her through everything including her time in jail. They married after
she was released. He was always her salvation and her “rock”, but in 2012 the
tables turned when she became his salvation. It was her 43rd birthday. Rob
who was only 44, suffered a massive heart attack and was pronounced dead
after 30 minutes without pulse or brain activity. Cheryl begged the doctors to
keep trying, not to pronounce him. At last the doctor said, “Ten minutes, but
no more. Then you have to let him go.” At the 43 minute mark, coincidentally
on Cheryl’s 43rd birthday, Rob Cuccio came back to life. “Ten Minutes More”
will be their true story.
My sister, Phyllice Bradner, and I are working on the 4th Silver Sisters Mystery,
“Diamonds in the Dumpster,” and making great progress. It’s another funny
mystery with twists, turns and a surprise ending. Looking for an early 2016
release.
“Bumping Off Fat Vinny,” a funny crime caper co-authored with Dennis N.
Griffin is now also available as an audio book narrated by Tom Lennon.
I’ll be giving two workshops at the upcoming “Memories Are Made of This”
memoir conference at Valley Los Angeles College, October 23-25, 2015. Visit
the website for more information.
