That’s why the thoughts at the beginning of this issue are
about positive attitudes. I’ve learned through the years that
attitude plays a great part in the path your life takes. Of course,
we can’t control everything—crap happens and there is no way
to control that. But the way you react to challenging situations
and goals can be the difference between having things go
downhill or soar.

I’ve followed the Facebook posts of journalist turned author
Andrew Kaufman throughout 2015 because he is a wonderful
example of thinking positive. When you are told you have Stage
III cancer it is devastating. You can crawl into a shell which will
not help your healing, or you can find your humor and positive
attitude. The choice is yours. Andrew chose the latter. All
through 2015 he kept his readers and fans posted on his
progress. Sometimes the news wasn’t good, but he didn’t give in
to that.
I loved the idea he had of wearing different kinds of athletic
shoes every day while in the hospital. He took photos of them
and posted them online. Crazy colors, different laces, fun stuff.
He started his own “kick cancer” campaign throughout his
sessions of chemotherapy and he didn’t give in—he continued
