Spring officially arrived at 6:28 a.m. EDT (3:28 a.m. PDT) March 20,
when the sun was directly over the equator, marking the spring (aka
vernal) equinox here in the Northern Hemisphere.

day anxiously awaited, but in some places the weather
didn’t get the message and it still felt like Winter. Here in Las Vegas 10
days into Spring Mother Nature flexed her muscles with a record-
breaking windstorm. In some places winds reached up to 70 miles an
hour, and that’s a signal to stay off the road unless it’s important.
Regardless of where you live, a word of warning. In high winds don’t
drive next to 18 wheelers because they can be toppled. This happened
about 10 minutes away from my house, and it wasn’t the only one.

When you live in the desert, high winds mean the air fills with dust
as you can see from the gray sky in this photo—not Photoshopped,
that’s what it actually looked like. Flights were delayed, and electricity
went out in some parts of our city.
The good news was that this didn’t happen during two library book
fairs. Local Author Showcase on March 18 at Paseo Verde Library in
Henderson and Spring Fling on March 25 at Clark County Library in Las
Vegas. I participated in both of those, wrapping up a very busy month
for me.
