Of his visual style the Director comments,“ I like those schizophrenic qualities to art... I don’ t see any boundaries... It’ s more important to inspire people with primal strangeness.” Made as a revenge act against university lecturers, Federico hopes his DIY approach to production will spark a movement in filmmaking the equivalent to what punk rock inspired in the music industry. Having made‘ Black Biscuit’ the Director wrote his manifesto- Pink8. The document includes guidelines such as“ the cast must not know what the film is about( and) filming must be done without any preparation.” In theory,‘ Black Biscuit’ is an anti formal education, pro raw creativity production. Federico wanting his film to,“ represent the times and be the epitome of today’ s youthful creative thinking... you don’ t need universities.” Though whether the director has created a film of a standard which achieves this in practice is debateable. What Federico lacks in ability, he seemingly makes up for in passion, proclaiming,“ we’ re the outlaws of cinema, fearless modern poets who want to change the rules, culture and life... that’ s what I want to get across to people and the new generation of filmmakers- forget the rules and reinvent them as you go along.” The following is a glimpse of the Pink8 manifesto.
Film school is poison. Look for street superstars to be in your cast. Your film must be made on no budget only sporadic money. The Director must have a main character role in the film. Short films are not acceptable, it must be a feature. The cast must not know what the film is about. Filming must be done without any preparation or a traditional script. Your film must be
95 % improvised. Continuity is wrong. Bewildering, vague, self indulgent, plotless, risky, egotistical, lipid, raw, ugly and imperfect are perfect. Film experience is inessential. Answer to one person only- yourself.
