WRITERS ABROAD MAGAZINE Mangrove Lullaby A Poem by Rilla Norslund Moon is round and bright, dear, it’s hanging ‘round tonight. Guards have called the “all clear”, they’ll see if he comes near. We spotted Spotted-Deer, dear, right near here, have no fear. Tiger favors deer meat; loves fleet hooves, not flat feet. When fishers fish for creek fish, honey-hunters search for hives, yellow eyes… they watch, dear, and claws they claw through lives. We saw clawed giant paw prints, bark shredded; torn in raw hints, bright eyes will burn the night, dear, poor doe deers don’t sleep tight. Now night is sighing peacefully and shadows keep our secrecy, so you are safe in here, dear, I’m watching, always near. WA 6|September 2015
