WRITERS ABROAD MAGAZINE : THE THIRD SPACE
Be careful that you do eat properly as you don ’ t want to be running on empty in the afternoon having got so stuck into your story that you forgot to eat .
Be Selfish
This sounds harsh , and I suppose it is , but sometimes the only way to get some writing done is to be selfish . You need time to write and while you are writing you can ’ t play with your children , you can ’ t watch television with your husband , you can ’ t meet a friend for coffee . You need to find time in the day , ideally every day , to write and in order to do that , you have to prioritise writing over other things . I have found myself turning down invitations , because they clash with when I can do some writing and I don ’ t want to give up that time . I think there ’ s nothing wrong with that as long as you don ’ t turn down everything , end up with no friends , and nothing to refill your creative well . I know a lot of writers are introverts , but an evening with a good friend at the cinema or theatre can be just what you need sometimes to get the creative juices flowing again .
