WRITERS ABROAD MAGAZINE: THE THIRD SPACE
Be careful that you do eat properly as you don’ t want to be running on empty in the afternoon having got so stuck into your story that you forgot to eat.
Be Selfish
This sounds harsh, and I suppose it is, but sometimes the only way to get some writing done is to be selfish. You need time to write and while you are writing you can’ t play with your children, you can’ t watch television with your husband, you can’ t meet a friend for coffee. You need to find time in the day, ideally every day, to write and in order to do that, you have to prioritise writing over other things. I have found myself turning down invitations, because they clash with when I can do some writing and I don’ t want to give up that time. I think there’ s nothing wrong with that as long as you don’ t turn down everything, end up with no friends, and nothing to refill your creative well. I know a lot of writers are introverts, but an evening with a good friend at the cinema or theatre can be just what you need sometimes to get the creative juices flowing again.
