Our tour included a walk through pit lane, where we saw teams making last-minute modifications to the bikes in the hours and minutes leading up to the race itself. This kind of intensive tweaking of the technology, in which teams invest massive amounts of capital in order to gain a strategic edge, is likely familiar to those who follow top tier car racing like Formula 1. Tissot’s own popular brand ambassador, Nicky Hayden— known to fans as the Kentucky Kid—was entered into the race, his 200th since he began racing in MotoGP. Nicky told us that while he loves the Circuit of the Americas facilities and relishes the chance to race in front of an American crowd—he is currently the only American racing in MotoGP—the course layout was not one of his favorites in the series. Still, Nicky made a respectable showing, finishing near the center of the pack.
