LANGE MANUFACTURE

The German Three- Quarter Plate

The three-quarter plate is one of the most important traditional elements of A. Lange & Söhne watches. Ferdinand A. Lange introduced it in 1864 and since then it has established itself as a characteristic feature of all watchmaking in Glashütte.
The three-quarter plate accommodates and strengthens the bearings of the going train. According to A. Lange & Söhne, these plates must be perfectly positioned over several arbors at the same time during movement assembly, a task that can take extra time during production. A three-quarter plate not only allows a reduction of the axial distance tolerances of the wheels, it also makes movements more resistant to dirt and dust.
