with its unusual jumping hour mechanism, is fitted into a 42.5 mm

OUT OF TIME
Another high-profile release from DeWitt that highlights the
outside-the-box thinking currently prevailing at this small but
nimble maison is the Academia Out of Time. This watch presents
the wearer with a juxtaposition not seen elsewhere in contemporary
watchmaking. The time is presented in a difficult-to-manufacture
deadbeat seconds format—with its starting and stopping hand
reminiscent of a simple quartz watch. A small subdial, however,
shows the “virtual time,” a fluid rendition of the seconds that
removes any doubt as to whether or not the Academia Out
of Time is a fine, hand-made Swiss automatic watch.
For the Academia Out of Time dials,
DeWitt draws on its industry-leading dial workshop for three different shades of lacquer (black,
white, or blue).
