This watch presents the wearer with a juxtaposition not seen elsewhere in contemporary watchmaking. The time is presented in a difficult-to-manufacture deadbeat seconds format—with its starting and stopping hand reminiscent of a simple quartz watch. A small subdial, however, shows the “virtual time,” a fluid rendition of the seconds that removes any doubt as to whether or not the Academia Out of Time is a fine, hand-made Swiss automatic watch.
