BASEL 3 Like the excess horsepower on a supercar, the added functionality of a chronograph may go unused on a day-to-day basis, but the simple fact that it’s there stirs an innate desire to own one. Whether the chronograph at hand assumes the busy instrument look of a multi-function logarithmic disk, or the more austere presentation of a clean bi-compax dial, chronographs remain the most popular and accessible complication added to a wristwatch. Like the extra ponies under the hood of a sports car, the extra sub-dials on the face and pushers on the case imply a certain cachet that speaks to the fact that this is better than your “average” timepiece. Whether used for interval timing or not, there is no disputing that the chronograph style remains a favorite among aficionados. 1 2 66 WRISTWATCH | 2016
