b BOUTIQUE FEELING BLUE At Baselworld 2016, Ateliers deMonaco unveiled an exclusive new version of its most emblematic model, the Tourbillon Oculus. Characterized by its modern look, with an off-centered dial at 12 o’clock and tourbillon aperture at 6, the 44mm titanium Tourbillon Oculus 1927 model features an eye-catching royal blue dial. Produced and assembled by the Ateliers deMonaco watchmakers in Geneva, the new model is powered by its own in-house patented Tourbillon XP1 movement, which drives the hours, minutes and small seconds. With an average tolerance between 0-2 seconds per 24 hours, this caliber is one of the most accurate tourbillon movements in the world today. Limited to just 88 pieces, the Tourbillon Oculus 1927 is also available with a grey dial in a rose or white gold case. Retail prices range from $56,200 to $66,200. WORK OF ART The new Dong Son Tourbillon from Speake-Marin features a stunning red gold dial intricately etched with a relief motif inspired by the prehistoric bronze drums of the ancient Dong Son people of Vietnam. The dial center motif follows a similar pattern to these historical masterpieces, with an outer ring of graceful egrets complemented by an inner ring of plumed warriors holding their weapons between the 12 points of the eye-catching starburst. Polished bevels of the drum-like red gold Piccadilly case lead the eye towards the animated 60-second tourbillon, positioned at 6 o’clock. Other instantly recognizable Speake-Marin qualities include sculpted heatblued hands, a finely finished self-winding movement and a fluted crown, here set with a dazzling diamond. 32 WRISTWATCH | 2016
