NEWS CREATE YOUR OWN WATCH WITH PAUL GERBER Master watchmaker Paul Gerber is inviting watch enthusiasts to his atelier for a four-day watchmaking workshop under his expert supervision. In a small group of only three participants, Paul Gerber together with his wife, Ruth, will teach a watchmaking course that offers real hands-on experience with the manufacture of a wristwatch. Starting with the disassembly of the base movement, a UNITAS handwound caliber, alongside a theoretical introduction into the physics of a clockwork, you will learn step-by-step how to machine movement plates, file, harden, cut and blue screws, set rubies, assemble the movement and fit dial and hands. Finally, the watch gets adjusted and cased. At the end of the course each participant will have manufactured his/her own personal timepiece with custom movement, designed and finished a unique guilloched dial created by Paul Gerber and fit into a stainless steel case. Each movement carries a plate engraved with the name of its creator. The tuition covers three full days. After two days at the workbench, participants have one day to rest and discover Zurich. Paul Gerber offers this course up to four times a year. The next two courses will be held from November 17-20, 2016 and from January 26-29, 2017. 122 WRISTWATCH | 2016
