CORUM Bubble Op Art watches incorporate patterns that give an impression of movement and contradictory perspectives. Stripped of its dial, the skeleton Bubble magnifies the mechanical engine within. But just as Severin Wundermann was always looking for the next thing, Corum has taken social media to a whole new level with their Customize Your Bubble contest. Announced prior to BaselWorld, Corum invited anyone to submit their own design through a special Instagram link allowing people to vote for their favorite. The winners will have the pleasure of seeing their design come to fruition in the form of a new Corum Bubble! What might have seemed a quirky stunt 16 years ago, has in fact proven to be one of Severin Wundermann’s greatest legacies, living on beyond him and moved forward by Corum. More than anything else, the Bubble has become the ultimate canvas for creativity. This is borne out by the latest offerings which embody a variety of artistic interpretations. The use of the extreme dive watch inspired crystal continues to provide the perfect magnifying lens to better display a potentially endless array of original designs, such as those designed in collaboration with the French artist Dani Olivier. Any doubt about Corum’s commitment to the Bubble was swiftly dispelled at BaselWorld this year where Corum curated a dedicated Bubble Room. It seems that the Bubble is here to stay, and Severin Wundermann’s crazy idea lives on. 106 WRISTWATCH | 2016
