Technical Program Tracks

The 2021 program is aligned in the following tracks : Chemicals of Emerging Concern
This track explores perfluorinated compound occurrence and treatment , disinfection byproduct formation , public health impacts , and compliance strategies . Attendees will learn about ways to remove PFAS from surface and groundwater and learn about pilot testing and occurrence data relative to state guidance levels . Additional topics covered in this track include cutting edge research on microplastics and decision support tools implemented by utilities across the country .
Advanced Treatment
This track explores biofiltration performance , analytical methods , public health issues and water reuse , and UV disinfection . Attend sessions in this track to become more familiar with monitoring of microbes in biofilters , UV and advanced oxidation for water treatment , and other unique solutions to water quality challenges .
Microbiology
Come learn about the latest developments in monitoring and management of waterborne pathogens and cyanobacteria . This track covers a variety of topic of topics including microbial surrogates and potable reuse , treatment of legionella and other opportunistic pathogens , and management of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins .
Distribution Systems
Preventing water quality deterioration in the distribution system is the final step for water utilities in providing safe drinking water . Attend sessions in this track to learn about the latest research on drinking water distribution systems , orthophosphate applications for corrosion control of lead and copper , and maintaining disinfectant residuals . Sessions will further focus on disinfection by-product formation , reduction , and other distribution system considerations .
Water Quality and Monitoring
Water quality and monitoring is key for all water providers . Attend sessions in this track to delve deeper into finished water aesthetics , source water monitoring and assessment , and process optimization and data management . Attendees will also learn about impacts of wildfires on drinking water quality and how to implement corrosion control studies to help make informed decisions on management of water quality concerns .
