Install a Pulley System
Talk about clever…this pulley system pulls things up to the sleeping loft with the pull of a rope. Not only useful for attics, study lofts,
sleeping lofts, and anywhere accessible by a narrow staircase or
ladder, this is also a fun conversation piece. Use a decorative pulley
for holding house plants, trays for mail and keys, baskets, and the
like.
Add Charm in Unexpected Places
The owner of this “skoolie” (a converted school bus) took a
wood-burner to their kitchen counter to show a lot of personality.
You can do the same, or simply add a vintage bottle-cap opener
that’s useful and fun at the same time. Go for a farmhouse style or
a classy monogramed version. Also note the hidden door in what is
normally kick-space under the counter. Using every square inch will
fill your kitchen with charm (and plenty of storage).
Go for Cubbies or Cabinets
Top-open window seat benches are a good idea, but can be
impractical when you have to move everything to get to the storage
space. A more user-friendly idea is to create cubbies or cabinets in
the same space. Then you can organize it with baskets and boxes
for easy use, or hide it away with cabinet doors without needing
to dismantle the seat. You can also make a great entryway bench
that creates the look of a window seat complete with cubbies and
baskets underneath for the ultimate multipurpose storage solution.
Reimagine Odds and Ends
Tiny homes mean tiny kitchens – and drawer space is at a minimum. Here, this towel rack is repurposed to hold hanging pails, a
perfect way to store silverware, spatulas, or other kitchen odds and
ends. Towel racks, tension rods, and hooks can help you make use
of awkward s paces. These are easily installed in any narrow space,
and come in every style to suit your design tastes. You can match
your hooks to your hardware, or choose an accent color or metal to
make the storage space pop.
Get Plenty of Hooks
Hooks are the under-represented storage solution for homes
both tiny and large. They can handle almost anything you throw
on it, from a full tote bag to an empty basket for farmer’s market
adventuring. Match the hooks to your needs — over-the-door, folding, multi-prong, decorative — they come in nearly every imaginable style. Hooks are useful in every room of the house, from the
entryway to the hallway, bathroom to game room, and kitchen to
laundry room.
