our music and positive vibes. We promote love, hope and peace... not hate,
anger, depression and violence.
Their full length album “Bright Roads
Ahead” was released in February 2012.
We caught up with the band in between
gigs at joints like The Square Grouper
and CityPlace to get the low down on the
past, present and future of Making Faces.
What was it like to play China
and the Warped Tour to whole
new audiences?
How did you guys get together
and how long have have you
been playing together?
The band has been together since
2011. We have all met different ways.
Craigslist is how we met our drummer
and keyboard player.
Neither are serial killers, thank God. Our
bass player was the security guard where
I live, and he looked bored and saw a
bass in our car one day so the conversation started. A few weeks later, he joined
the band and left the security gig for rock
stardom!
What are some of your music
influences?
We have been influenced by the best
bands, artists and ultimate creators
like: Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311,
James Brown, Prince, Less Than Jake,
Fishbone, Bob Marley, Beastie Boys,
Michael Jackson, and God. We love music with groove and lyrics with substance.
What are some of your favorite
places to play?
We prefer any spot where people are
into live music, like to let loose and
have fun. Some of our favorite regular
spots are: Conchy Joe’s (Jensen Beach),
Copper Blues (West Palm Beach), Margaritaville Resort (Hollywood), The Inlet
(Fort Pierce), Kahunas (Deerfield Beach),
Propaganda (Lake Worth), Brogue’s
Downunder (Lake Worth), and Gilbert’s
Resort (Key Largo). We’re all about positive vibes and putting a smile on your
face. We like the audience to leave in a
better mood with an enhanced well
being. Our goal at every show is always
to gain fans by impacting people with

China was awesome! The Chinese
people are excellent hosts. It was so fresh
and different. They loved our music and
made us feel so welcome, like we were
the Beatles or something. They put us
in the same hotel that Michael Jackson
had stayed at. We played a city called
Zhangjiajie, where Avatar was filmed
in its breathtaking national forest. We
played SunFest and a lady in the audience was connected to the government
of Hunan. She said we were her favorite
band and invited us to play festival
shows out there a few months later.
I didn’t believe it at first, but when she
started emailing contracts in Chinese
and kept telling us to get our passports,
I knew it was real. We didn’t know exactly
what was happening until we got over
there. A leap of faith is always good.
The Warped Tour was a great experience as well. We played it two years in
a row and enjoyed the crowd energy and
passion the audience has for new music.
Even though there are many stages and
bands, it is organized very well and has
been going strong for like 22 years! We
love interacting with the crowd and
meeting the other local, regional and national acts. We would love to do it again
on a bigger scale!
As far as some of the national acts we’ve
had the pleasure of opening for, Barenaked Ladies were very friendly humorous
Canadians. I love their style and songs.
Reggae artists like Shaggy, the Original
Wailers and Yellowman were all super
cool and down to earth too. It was great
being able to share the stage with all of
them. Collie Buddz was the nicest and
most humble artist we’ve ever hung out
with. Soul Asylum was great too, they
have so many good songs.
Passafire, Tribal Seeds, Badfish, Slightly
Soopid, Less Than Jake and Rebelution
are other bands we’ve had the honor of

opening for. We try to keep our shows
fun and unpredictable based on the
venue, crowd and the length of the show.
Because our “Roggunk” sound is appreciated by many audiences, we base the
actual set-list on who the audience is
that night. We have great flexibility in our
style and have yet to play for an audience
that did not like our show. We haven’t
played for a death metal audience yet,
but they would probably like us too...
hopefully!
Any more recording coming up?
New album coming out tail end of
2016. “Sunny Side Up” will have 10 new
songs. The first single “Put Your Roots
Down” was actually released May 10th.
April 1st was the anticipated date we had
set in case it would take longer. And it
did, so we publically announced “April
Fool’s” on that date. It is different from
2012’s “Bright Roads Ahead” because
it has more of a coherent band sound.
We’ve branded ourselves as a new genre
of music called “Roggunk,” a blend of
rock-reggae-funk. On this album, songs
were arranged by the whole band.
“Bright Roads Ahead” was more of a
studio project produced by myself and
former drummer Scott Aitken. Stylistically, it spanned more genres and there
wasn’t as much of a band arrangement
and “sound.”
We are constantly enjoying the journey
and feel that working hard and putting
on every show like it’s our last. We’d like
to brand ourselves more as our selfdescribed “Roggunk” style and gain more
fans regionally, as well as internationally.
“Ready to Get Sweaty” is a song that has
recently become a crowd favorite. The
groove is infectious and people can’t
help but to move and sing along. It’s
an all-around fun song to perform and
hear. “Put Your Roots Down”, “Cemetery”
and “Paradise” are other songs most
frequently requested at shows. They
have strong rhythmic qualities and positive messages attached to them. Keep on
the lookout for new Making Faces songs
to be released. Support local music by
coming to see us at a show. We’ll be sure
to put a smile on your face!
