O
n a pleasant day here in South Florida, you say,
“today is a perfect day for a picnic.” Soon you take
a trip to the local deli counter, then you gather your
finger food and drinks, put them in a bag, and finally set out
toward your favorite spot, wherever that may be. On the
way, you suddenly realize you forgot a blanket to lay out the
picnic. But since you’re already a mile away from the house,
you quip, “Oh, well… next time.”
Only next time the destination requires a bit more planning.
After all, you’re proposing to your love one, and you want the
perfect moment to be captured in history just like a grainy
black-and-white art photo. What do you do to set the roman-
tic mood?
Two images come to mind when someone mentions the
word picnic. A pretty white and red checkered cloth set on a
luscious green grass or at a perfect sandy beach spot under
a breezy palm tree. Add to this beautiful image bowls of wild-
flowers, canapés, cheese spread, baguette, shrimp cocktail,
plates and wine glasses, and champagne in a silver metal
antique cooler, and you suddenly have a perfect setting.
That’s the version imagined. But somewhere between point
A and B, you lost a step. You forgot the corkscrew. Now you’re
sitting in the car, parked up near a seafront, rain lashing
outside; tempers steaming inside.
A few months ago, Becky Finn of Picnic Fashion, a stylish
picnic-ware and accessories boutique store with a fun retro
vibe, teamed up with restaurant entrepreneur Olivier Delrieu
to come up with perfecting the art of dining al fresco in West
Palm Beach. They imagined the possibilities our beautiful
paradise can offer for a relaxing picnic outing. And…
“Voila!”
As part of their initial project, they have created three
different types of picnics, each with their own mood and
destination focus.
These picnics sets will inspire you to think of outdoor dining
in a different way. They can turn a picnic for two into a picnic
for four easily. And bonus…everything in these baskets, aside
from the food and drinks, of course, can also be reused.
Talking to Finn, and listening to her many creative basket
ideas both locals and visitors can enjoy—just struck me how
simple ideas could be turned into unsurmountable reward-
ing experiences.
These baskets as seen in WPB Magazine, were specially
arranged for our audience by courtesy of Picnic Fashion. The
store is located in downtown West Palm Beach at 425 S Olive
Ave. But Becky, who is passionate about picnics, whether
impromptu, casual or elegant, can help you make your own
memories.
Either if you are tempted for outdoor dining in a dash or the
photos in the following pages invite you to enjoy a plentiful
picnic experience the Palm Beaches, on top of the unique
collection of baskets, colorful melamine picnic-ware, acces-
sories and gifts that Picnic Fashion carry, you will also love
her curated collection of vintage barware and linens from the
1940’s - 1960’s that might add a fun retro vibe to your next
picnic.
Picnicking remains a major South Florida pastime for
obvious reasons. We have the best locations. Windswept
seafronts are best, but parks, woodlands, and even back-
yards by the poolside are all fair game for picnicking.
Because we live in a coastal town with a tropical climate,
whether it is summer, winter, spring or fall, all seasons
actively encourage outdoor dining.
Why not enjoy the rest of our summer having picnics with
family and friends?
