2-Allow yourself to be inspired.
I would have to say that the #1 reason that I rent, watch or buy a movie is that I hope to be inspired by it. The directors,
actors and actresses that I cherish have all inspired me to be a better me at one point or another.
Last year, I saw a commercial for a movie that described it as “The story of a lifetime.” I immediately wrote it down and
vowed to see it. This movie was “Moonlight”. I had no idea walking into the movie theater that a movie could inspire me to
the level that this one did. I know it sounds hyperbolic, but this movie absolutely changed me. It is magical, transcending and
absolutely beautiful. It never stops inspiring either. The DVD features behind the scenes material that inspired me even more.
A gentleman who writes for New York Magazine was just as deeply moved by this amazing film. He went home and wrote
his review of “Moonlight”, which was a beautiful, heartfelt observation on why this movie is such an emotional, gorgeous
creation. Little did he know that months later, he would win a Pulitzer Prize for his writing of that review! It doesn’t end
there-“Moonlight”, against all odds, won the Oscar for best picture, after Faye Dunaway was handed the wrong card to read
and announced “LaLa Land” as the best picture winner. So go see a play alone, go watch a ballet, go see a concert that you
saw advertised but would never “usually” attend.
You can’t be inspired unless you are open to be inspired, and by all means if you haven’t seen “Moonlight”, please see it,
alone and with a box of tissues!
