$9 billion by 2036. That's not just an efficiency story, it's an access story. When robotics handles the repetitive physical labor, the job becomes about operating systems, reading data, and solving problems, skills never distributed by gender to begin with.
The industry also faces a real worker shortage as experienced hands retire, pushing companies toward reskilling and AI-driven analytics training. Retiring veterans, real talent need, and tools that lower the physical barrier: that combination is exactly the kind of opening that lets people in who were locked out before.
The second shift is where and how the work happens. Supply chain roles used to mean showing up to a facility on someone else's schedule. AI has loosened that. Nearly a quarter of employed women now work from home, a higher share than men, and AI-powered tools are opening remote paths in data analytics, logistics coordination, and digital sales, work that touches this industry without anyone standing on a loading dock at 6 a.m.
That flexibility matters most for women who've historically had to choose between a demanding operational career and everything else they're responsible for. AI doesn't erase that tension, but it gives more people room to build a career on their own terms.
I don't think it's an accident that female leadership in pallets is growing at the same time AI is reshaping what the job requires. When technology takes over what used to double as a litmus test, what's left is judgment, communication, and a different way of seeing the problem, exactly the diversity of thought that research says women bring to supply chain leadership.
