Rocking ’n’ rolling in Notts
T
hey were rocking and rolling Mecca-style at the Great Notts
Show when Mecca Beeston took centre stage at this big event
in Nottingham’s Old Market Square.
With some 100,000 visitors over the three days of the show, it was
a great opportunity to attract new customers and let everyone know what their
local bingo club had to offer. On the Saturday night, senior host Tom Machin
and operations manager Winston Baugh took control of the stage for a session
of Rock ’n’ Roll bingo, with membership manager Siana Macken giving out tickets
and dabbers to all who wanted to play along.
“This was a great showcase for us. We gave away many weird and wonderful
prizes such as a unicorn’s head and a T-shirt with a guitar on it that you could play.
We had a fantastic response and received some very positive feedback,” said Siana,
who was there for all three days manning the Mecca stand.
Mark picked as
gunge ‘victim’
Customers at Mecca Wednesbury
knew exactly which of the managers
they wanted to see under the bucket of
gunge – general manager Mark Adams.
Having received more than double
the votes of any other team member,
Mark was duly gunged with a sticky
mix of golden syrup, mushy peas,
custard, food colouring and jelly.
It took three showers to get rid of
all the traces, but it was worth it
to raise £200 for Rank Cares.

Oompa Loompa
session success
A Willy Wonka-themed Stay to
Play session was a big success at
Mecca Oldham. The brainwave of
senior team member Sarah Hadfield
saw 50 per cent more customers
than normal staying to play in the
amusements area after bingo was over.
Sarah, pictured in Oompa Loompa
splendour with a happy customer, put
in a great deal of hard work to make
the session a success. Judging from the
fantastic feedback, it certainly was!
