Worship Musician October 2019 | Page 19

to Zamar the Lord, just to worship Him and praise Him with your instruments. I just thought that I would love to create something that I would love having play around my house, and that will help people bring a real spirit of peace and worship… and calm in their hearts when they hear this. So we took a shot at it. [WM] Who were the musicians and what parts did you play on it? [Chris] I didn’t play much on it, I just kind of gave direction. The guitar player was Josiah Kreidler. He is a guy that my producer really liked. I went with a different producer for this project, his name is Tommee Proffit. It’s hilarious, because when you think of Tommee Proffit and what he is known for, and what this record is, they are two totally different things. Tommee is a producer of NF and the hip hop explosion. He did Billboard’s biggest record in the country two weeks ago, its massive. Tommee is also a worship leader, he has a great heart of worship, and he also is just a great dear friend. He has an incredible cinematic mind. He does scores for loads of movie trailers and things like that. I’d never worked with him musically, and he to make something that people can really soak jazz, there are so many different ways. So we was like, “I’ve always wanted to work with in it needs to have his touch and we would went down several different paths trying to find you on some kind of music thing, because really massage that. That’s the opening track something that would be signature to me and everything I do is in the massive hip hop world so I just want to put people into that real sense the way it makes people feel. or in movies.” He’s an incredible player and an of peace. When you hear it, it’s pretty cohesive, but as incredible string arranger. So, he and I just sat in this little mad scientist room and just came We used some of the samples of things he far as playing it live I think there might be some up with what it would do, and then he created combines in his little mad scientist world. I’ve moments in the concert that we could just do it with some of his players. never seen a world like he has, just the samples that. We’ve been doing that lately with “How and sounds, he is a sound scientists and it’s Great is Our God”. I’ve played that for fifteen just so fun. years now which is crazy to think, but lately it’s [WM] On “Good Good Father” the piano been more special than it’s been in a long time, sound is just terrific. Was this a real grand piano that you mic’ed well in the studio or a synth [WM] Will you incorporate some of these because we just play and let it play and see or plug-in? instrumentals into your live concerts or is this where it goes. It’s beautiful, and that’s what this the perfect “pre-concert music” to play as the record is about. [Chris] It’s about two or three different crowds settle in for you shows? [WM] With a few of the songs you broke the samples combined that Tommee uses to find unique sounds, it’s a beautiful sound. I think so [Chris] It might be a little sleepy, it’s interesting, instrumental rules and brought in some voices/ much of it is the way that he plays, but we did because when you think about approaching an words… tell us about that decision? it a couple different ways. I love playing piano, I instrumental record there are so many different write most of my songs on piano, but I’m not a ways you can do it. You can do bluegrass, you [Chris] That was interesting, we found a player like he is. I thought that if we were going can do folk, you can do cinematic, you can do couple ways to combine a couple songs. One October 2019 Subscribe for Free... 19
