career that has been how it has helped me.
How can I understand the God that is not just
of California, but also the God of the world, and
the universe! I get to know Him more through
Latin America.
[WM] Being raised in a bi-cultural home myself
(my mother was Hispanic), I certainly applaud
your commitment to learning the Spanish
language. Your enunciation, nuance and
speaking cadence are excellent, and your skill
in transitioning between English and Spanish
while leading worship is beyond compare. I’m
certain that your efforts to this end encourage
Hispanic worshipers to respect and embrace
you even more because you’ve done “the
work”. What are your thoughts on this?
[Evan] First, thank you very much. I think
I didn’t ever know that I would arrive at this
point, I’m very happy that it came out of just
wanting to serve. Without becoming too
theological, one of the main teachings of the
New Testament is Jesus bringing people back
into community, and Pentecost is many people
from different places understanding each other.
I think on a small scale, that’s what I get to be
a part of. And today you have two of the three
most spoken languages in the world spoken
in California, Texas, and Florida… and across
the US. We get to be a part of seeing how
the church counteracts with that. And so, it’s
bound to happen.
One of the things about here, being in the right
place at the right time, it doesn’t speak that

was going to do it had to have a love of both
