Lollar P-90 magnetic pickup at the neck (Lollar
pick-ups are made in Tacoma, WA - the town
next to where I live). The onboard pre-amp is
powered by an on-board battery. The two polar-
opposite pick-up types with a separate volume
and tone for the magnetic and a volume knob
for the bridge pickup which allows you to mix in
how much of each you want is where all of the
action is on this guitar. You can go stereo out
as well – sending the P-90 and the Fishman to
your amps/sound sources of choice. For both
live and recording situations this instrument is
a winner.
With the metal resonator aspect to the guitar’s
build it does have some weight to it, it might
remind you of a Les Paul in that sense. The
Keb Mo at NAMM
scale length is 25 1/2"and the fretboard is
Ebony with medium jumbo frets. The neck has
a 10” radius and sports a bone nut (width is
1&11/16). Add to that deluxe tuners, a good
looking faux tortoise shell pickguard and a really
nice hardshell case and you have one feature
packed Beard Resoluxe guitar for a MAP of
$2650.00. This is well priced considering it is a
luthier crafted, made in America, fine instrument
with this level of quality parts.
Closing thoughts… Paul is also a believer and I
would like to applaud the fact that this brother
in the Lord has been so diligent in making all
kinds of reso guitars – round necks, square
necks, electrics, basses and even a new Deco
acoustic guitar (we have one of those coming
our way to review as well). He recently came
out with a whole line of Jerry Douglas Signature
model acoustic resonators (Jerry is a gifted
player to say the least). Here at [WM] we
celebrate Paul Beard and his team’s success.
