impressive. I tried it on a mono synth solo, and the stereo doubles made the part super fat and more present in the mix. On a crunch guitar part, it was pretty convincing with a little tweaking. I then experimented on acoustic. It’s very time consuming to get a killer acoustic pass that I’m happy with and then double it perfectly. Using Widen gave me a nice stereo pass with minimal adjusting. I sent it to the producer and he liked it. On BGV’s, Widen works on stereo tracks and adds depth. For an experiment, I tried spitting my stereo BGVs into 2 mono tracks and inserted Widen on both. They sounded beefier with just the right amount mixed in. I had the best results using either or both plug- ins in AUX mode on separate Aux channels. CONCLUSIONS: I have used this plug-in extensively over the past months and loved it. My go-to plug-in for Vocal doubles has usually been ReVoice Pro, but for something that’s easy, quick and sounds quite convincing, VoxDoubler is fantastic. I’ve been using it more and more on acoustic guitars. Especially the strummy wide panned stuff. It’s so fast to nail one pass instead of two passes and saves time editing. It’s super quick for demos, and I wouldn’t be afraid to use on a master recording. For mixes, it’s a useful tool to add extra depth on a chorus, solo or mono instrument pass. At extreme settings, you can create a nice ‘John Lennon vocal” effect. Sonnox always makes great stuff, so I think you’ll find this plugin very useful. There is also a free 15-day demo available. $91.25 www.Sonnox.com Michael Hodge Record Producer, Writer, Studio musician, Staff Guitarist at Lakewood Church Houston TX.
