CUT CAPO WHAT A GOOD GOD BY PAUL BALOCHE | Mitch Bohannon A/C# Paul Baloche is one of my top three favorite songwriters for worship music. Brenton Brown is D E F#m X a favorite as well! I was excited when I saw Paul’s post that his new song would drop yesterday, “What a Good God”. What a great song! The lyrics just grabbed me. I immediately could relate and personalize each line. Each time I doubt Your goodness | You show me You are with us | Your presence makes the difference | I’ve seen it every time | What a good God | Bringing me back to life | Opening up my eyes | God of every blessing… We’ve all doubted, struggled, and felt distanced from God… but His goodness is what revives and restores us. This song could easily fit in the middle or end of a worship set. It could also be good as a response song after a message. I particularly love the lyric, “What a good God, bringing me back to life.” As far as playing and arranging the song, I hear the dynamic building more each time that phrase is sung… essentially echoing that life-giving goodness of God gradually pulling us out of that season of doubt and into His promise! The song is recorded with an easy, straight- four drive. I chose to play more fingerstyle on acoustic and then play the piano melody on the electric guitar. I really appreciate the simple chord progression that Paul uses on this song. I believe the simplicity makes the song more singable. My wife and I were both singing along the first time we heard the song.
