RIGBUILDING201
GUITAR RIG 201
One of the common mistakes musicians make when buying gear is not having a strategy for how all their gear will work together. One of the main points of this series is not to just show you what pieces of gear will work well for youth worship, but also how and why they serve a specific function inside the framework of a rig.
Since many of us don’ t just play at church, our rigs need to be versatile, modular, and capable of getting loud when we need them to. The modular part is key here, in that the elements of a smart rig should work well even if you’ re not using all the components. If you make your purchases with these things in mind, chances

are you’ ll get years of enjoyment out of your gear.
Because the music we play at church tends to be very dynamic, the ability to get from sound to sound with ease is something that is a must for the rigs we use. Picking up where we left off in the last issue, we’ ll be adding some additional goodies and functionality to both our youth guitar and bass rigs, so let’ s get to it!
1. GRETSCH G5422TG- $ 949.99 As I mentioned in the last issue, I love all the guitars in Gretsch’ s Centerblock series. The solid“ center” block keeps them from howling at high gain, while the hollow sides add that“ great Gretsch sound”.
2. AUDIO-TECHNICA SYSTEM 10 STOMBOX WIRELESS- $ 349.95 Once you’ ve gone wireless it’ s hard to go back. If I’ m on the platform, I’ m using one of these.
3. PETERSON STROBOSTOMP CLASSIC- $ 199.00 Like I mentioned last time, virtually every major

guitar tech I’ ve met uses one of these on their bench. They’ re easy to read on any stage, and when it comes to tuning, there’ s nothing better.
4. MXR DYNACOMP- $ 79.99 This is my go to compressor for worship pedalboards. I’ ve been using it for years and don’ t see that changing any time soon.
5. DUGYTE GP721 PEDALBOARD CONNECTION SYSTEM- $ 589.00 This unit solves virtually every problem guitar players face when building a rig – cable runs to your amp and your effects loop, power, and channel switching. These guys make a range of systems that are well worth the investment if you’ re serious about your rig.
6. ORANGE CRUSH 35RT- $ 259.00 This foot-switchable, two-channel amp delivers classic Orange tone at an affordable price. The headphone out jack doubles as a line out with a built-in speaker simulator. This feature is perfect for church with a silent stage since it mutes the speaker output.
7. ORANGE FS-1 FOOTSWITCH- $ 35.99 This bad boy is built like a tank, and features an Orange LED indicating when you’ re on the dirty channel.
8. BOSS DD-500- $ 299.99 Included in the Great Delay Pedals for Worship feature we did in the last issue, this pedal sounds great and has a ton of smart features.
9. PLANET WAVES INSTRUMENT CABLE KIT- $ 69.99 Every pedal on Joe Satriani’ s board is made from these kits for good reason, they’ re rock solid and sound great.

10. PEDALTRAIN NOVO 24 TC- $ 269.99 I have three Pedaltrain boards, and this one has room to grow and the hard case will make sure your pedals remain safe and sound.
