that diverse all week. So, we have flipped the narrative that you accurately pointed out that Sunday is the most segregated day in America because of church. And by the grace of God, Whitestone looks like heaven.
Also, it just looks like how we live our lives. I’ m bi-racial, my wife is white, and so there’ s a natural“ you attract who you are,” and we’ ve just made diverse choices in our lives, and it shows up organically in our church. We do all types of music, from Melvin, Chris Bell Jr. to Todd Galberth, to SEU, to Chris Tomlin, Elevation, and the whole spectrum in between.
[ WM ] I was curious about that because I’ ve seen you actually perform with some people in different streams. In fact, your new record is a good example as far as guest appearances. So that’ s great. You’ re putting your music where your mouth is.
[ Tauren ] That’ s it. At this point, I’ m 40 years old now, Bruce. I’ m 40; I’ m different. I’ m a grown man. So now the number one goal is for me to let everything I do in my life be out of an authentic overflow. So, I’ m not trying to be anybody except for who God’ s called me to be. And there’ s such a freedom in that, and you feel that and experience it in our church and through this album.
[ WM ] Wow, that’ s great. Now when you’ re touring, do you book your touring so you try to be back on Sundays, or do you just have good people fill in for you? How do you book your touring?
[ Tauren ] Both. I believe in a singular voice to bring vision to the house but a diversity of voices to bring depth and insight and wisdom into the house. And I’ m talking about church when I say house. Lorna and I set the vision, but other voices get to communicate within that framework. So, we’ ve got other pastors that speak, including my wife, and then we bring in pastors from around the country to come and preach. But I preach about 34 to 36 weekends a year, and I work with my team at JRA( John Roberts & Associates) and my touring partners to be home as much as possible on Sunday and to prioritize that.
[ WM ] Right on. I like it. Okay, let’ s talk about the record a little bit … Here Comes the Church. I watched“ Making Room” on YouTube this morning, and I loved it. It was nine minutes long. It was great. How’ d that one get going?
[ Tauren ]“ Making Room” actually started in my bedroom in Houston, Texas, in 2023. We were in the process of selling our house to move to Austin to start the church. And that song is really just an expression of where my heart was at the time. We’ re making room for a miracle from you. All we want is your presence. That’ s why we’ re making this move: to create space for you to do something new in a new city, to create space in our hearts for you to do
