NEW MUSIC
PAUL AND HANNAH MCCLURE After Your Heart“ All To Honour Jesus” is a humble prayer asking God to transform our hearts and minds to serve those in need. Surrounded by a single voice and simple acoustic guitar, this servant anthem is a perfect way to wrap up the EP with a call to serve God’ s people wherever we are as a response to what He has done.
Much of this album is centered around John 16:33 which tells us that we will have trouble in this world, but we are to take heart because Christ has overcome the world. Songs like“ My Labour Is Not In Vain”,“ We Too Have Overcome” and“ He Will Be” all touch on the topic of never-ending faithfulness and to hold fast to the Gospel because we know who wins the battle. I appreciate how CityAlight’ s writing does not shy away from the reality of hardship that many on earth are dealing with in their daily lives, sharing hope in the midst of personal darkness and shame in a way their audience can connect with, understand and apply to their lives.
CityAlight is a more accessible version of the Getty’ s. Their songs are hymn-like and very wordy no doubt, but they do a great job of mixing heavy lyrics with simple melody making their music easy to learn and sing. CityAlight has perfected the“ less-is-more” in modern worship music and a lot of churches are noticing.

Husband and wife duo, Paul and Hannah McClure have been around worship music their whole lives and have played a major role in a somewhat well-known worship collective called Bethel Music since 2011. They struck out on their own in 2019 with their first album together and the husband-and-wife team have been bringing their well written, harmony rich music to the church ever since. Their latest project, After Your Heart is a solid collection of intimate prayers and heartfelt worship that will point the worshiper straight to the heart of a loving God.
Some of the better cuts include the title track which borrows its theme from the story of the crippled woman in Mark 5 who reached out to touch Jesus. Led by Tiffany Hudson, this humble prayer showcases the condition of the human heart and our desperate need for God’ s presence in every part of our lives.
Leeland makes a guest appearance and adds his stirringly sweet tenor on“ Anything Better” which features flowing keyboards, electronic loops and simple melodies as the trio sings about the treasures we have in knowing Jesus.
Brian and Jenn Johnson’ s“ We Give You the Glory” is sure to find its place in many a Sunday setlist and the previously released“ My Hallelujah” is a gorgeous call to give ourselves in full surrender to the heart of Christ.
Hannah’ s smoky alto is haunting and inspirational on the opening track,“ Holy Hands” which is a heartfelt cry of worship to the one who is worthy of our praise. The guitar work and overall mix of this track sets up the rest of the album nicely as you are drawn into the power of God and the movement of the Holy Spirit that was taking place during the recording.
After Your Heart is probably the best collection from the McClures. There are quite a few great worship moments and anthems among these 11 tracks. Stylistically however, there is really nothing we haven’ t been hearing again and again over the past few years and that was a little disappointing to this reviewer, but I guess if you feel like it isn’ t broken, why fix it?
