TYLER KERPSACK // ENGINEER INSIGHTS, PART 2 | Jeff Hawley
It is my pleasure to present our Part Two interview article and video with House of Worship audio engineer Tyler Kerpsack. The topic of the day was around mixing‘ in the box’ vs. using external hardware and software. While we focused on his use of Allen & Heath dLive and Waves and select outboard hardware( SSL, Neve, etc.), the general concepts would apply equally to many different console setups and mixing approaches. I’ d like to state clearly from the get-go that the idea here isn’ t to demonstrate why we shouldn’ t use external gear or why the best option is to always use hardware rather than software, etc. As you’ ve likely read in many of my past WM articles, I don’ t think there is a‘ right’ answer in many of these high-level live sound sorts of questions. Option A may be workable for certain scenarios or may be the most cost-effective solution, but that doesn’ t mean that Option B couldn’ t be made to work or keep an Option C as a possible way forward. As a vegan, I don’ t condone the skinning of any animals … but as they say, there is more than one way to skin that cat.
