Have we finalized the lyrics ? Are the arrangements complete ? Is the band rehearsed ? Is that the best melodic hook we have for the instrumental section ? Are the vocalists prepared ? Does the production team have their cues ? Is the recording rig all patched and stable ? Do we have the hard drives formatted correctly ? Should we switch out the snare mic again and see if the M-80 is going to translate better than the 87 ? Is the video team set and ready ?
So much can swirl during the days leading up to a live recording . It can even feel chaotic at times . Many last-minute questions need definitive answers to get the church , and everyone involved , ready to capture an album .
And while many of those questions help us prepare logistically , there is no single question we can ask that is more critical than “ have we prayed ?” Is this event or recording covered with prayers that are pointed , powerful and effective ?
In my local church , Victory Church in Atlanta , where I serve as the Music Producer , we have been on an intentional pursuit of turning our prayers into songs and bringing them to our campuses and , as God grants us grace and favor , to the world .
