those who are crushed in spirit , as your video song “ Cry of the Broken ” articulates . Like you , the Lord personally met me with His presence during my battle with cancer . Your thoughts ?
[ Darlene ] A hundred percent ! I mean there ’ s things you find out about the character and the nature of God on your journey in Him . And I guess more deliberate you are about knowing God . I mean there ’ s as much of God to know as you want to know , right ? About who He is . But there are things that you don ’ t know about God until you are in the fire . There are parts of his nature and character that I thought I knew but I didn ’ t know and I met him . Well , let ’ s put it differently . He met me in some of those times of fire that , look , I still can ’ t go , “ Oh gee , I ’ m glad I had cancer . That ’ s awesome .” But I will say that there are things about , there are some gifts that you receive in cancer and knowing that part of the Lord is one of those gifts that I wouldn ’ t give back ever . I remember there was a couple of instances in particular , I don ’ t know about you , but I nearly died a couple of times due to the treatment , not due to the cancer .
Just one day I gave up and thought , “ God , I just can ’ t do this ,” and fell on the floor in just desperation . And literally it was like He was already on the floor waiting for me to fall and He held me with arms . And those moments I will never ever forget . There was another moment , my last day of radiation after a year of treatment , my last day of radiation , and it was the 17th of July and I opened up my devotional and it was about the Ark of the Covenant . And it says about the ark ( Noah ’ s ) that it says it rested on Mount Ararat on the 17th day of the seventh month . And I ’ m like , “ Okay , this is that day !” And I just felt the Lord came so near to me and he goes , go deeper . So I looked up Ara and it actually means the curse is reversed .
So on that very day , in that very moment when the spirit of God met me and just the curse is reversed ! I ’ m sitting there just jubilant burned and bald and all those things , but I felt like the fire of God met me . And in those moments , it ’ s like then when you go to minister , whether in a hospital or on a stage , I call it platform , I don ’ t love the word stage . I feel like it asks you to perform . So I call it platform . Wherever you find yourself with your family , there ’ s been a shift , and no one can take that away . And from that place you live in Him . I live and move .
[ WM ] That ’ s right , Darlene . For me , I was having difficulty swallowing starting about two years ago . It took six months to get into the specialist and I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer stage 3B . And so I started my treatments , my six weeks of chemo and my 32 days of radiation . And I ended up in the hospital for 28 days . And on the 21st day I had picked out a theme song for this time to listen to . And it was Psalm 23 set to music by Howard Goodall . And Howard Goodall is a British choir guy . He wrote the music for the original Mr . Bean series .
