Ron lead us through a great time of worship , that I lost my place in the chart . I missed a few cues and hits with the horns . Bummer !! BUT ,,, I never stopped the flow of the groove . There were no train wrecks ! It was just not as perfect as I would have liked it .
I thought to myself . “ You can never let yourself get distracted from the task at hand . Stay focused even in the midst of extreme emotion .” ** Drummers take note again – we are ALWAYS serving the team . Don ’ t get caught up in your own experience . Having a great time of worship with your friends can get your guard down . But it ’ s ALWAYS important to remember you are there to serve and do the job a drummer should do . “ Drive the bus !” ( Musically speaking , of course . This aspect of professional musicianship isn ’ t something that can be practiced as much as you learn it over time . I wanted you to have this story in your mind so that as you learn these lessons it will go deep into your musical character . As a worship drummer your role carries a priestly aspect of being a minister of music . You are not just keeping time . You are leading the way into the presence of the Lord “ alongside ” your worship leaders . Don ’ t lose your focus !
Be Blessed ,
Next I played for Don Moen . I have worked with Don for years and have played on many of his recordings . So , I ’ m pretty comfortable with the job . But on this tour half of the band was new to the gig and our sound check had been pretty
Everyone did a great job , and we basically played by faith … because we really could not hear the way we had at soundcheck . Because I dug in a little more it helped to keep the band together . The house engineer even mentioned
