black hardware and a bright yellow finish with black headstock .
When it comes to pick-ups this is where the tonal versatility comes from … a session guitarists needs to be able to play all different genres of music – sometimes in the same day . The Dann Huff is equipped with a Shark Tyler pick-up and two Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks . The pick-up combination ’ s dexterity a mid-boost control button on the other side of the 5-way pick-up selector ( when the button is down it is in passive mode – when it is up the preamp is engaged ) and a button for each pick-up that runs series or parallel . This set up is a throwback model to his days in Giant . The tonal spectrum goes from spanky-clean to sheer power whenever you need it and it has a myriad of tones in between .
How about the playability you ask ? I am only going to say this once … I have never played faster on any electric guitar in my life . The 25 ½ ” scale length , the fretwork and height of the frets ( Tyler calls them wide / tall ), the nut width ( 1 5 / 8 ”) and the shape of the neck … all contribute to this efficiency of playability . The Rosewood fingerboard is lighting quick .
Let ’ s talk about the neck shape for a moment . It is called a Thin 59 ( C shape ) that is modeled after a certain 1959 Fender Strat neck from one of Michael Landau ’ s guitars ( Michael is another session ace guitarist that worked a lot with James Tyler ). Tyler ’ s standard neck is the Standard 59 shape and when they place a Floyd Rose tremolo system on it ( they still keep good mass on the neck ) it is just a bit thinner called the Thin 59 . If you are a shredder , you can even order the neck a bit thinner than that – an X-Thin 59 .
This James Tyler guitar was a special treat to play . It gets high-marks across the board . I can see with good reason why a guitar hero and legendary producer like Dann Huff play a James Tyler guitar . It ’ s because he loves them and uses them .
One last word . With a guitar of this caliber and price range , you would expect a hardshell guitar case to go with it . Tyler does not disappoint here . Great looking stylized case to complete the package . Kudos !
