Vintage amplifiers sound amazing , but as most of us know the drawback if you use them onstage or on tour is that they can be temperamental and have issues with tubes and other circuitry . The Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve amplifier , although a budget priced amp offered by Sears from 1963-67 became a go to amplifier for current artists . Even guitar legend Jimi Hendrix was seen playing through a Twin Twelve amplifier back in the 1960 ’ s . Today , if you can find one that is non-altered , many of the Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve amps are fragile and their heads and cabinets are falling apart .
Fortunately , Jackson . Audio and Silvertone have teamed up to create the new Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve Guitar Pedal . [ WM ] Worship Musician was lucky to get one in for review after seeing the original prototype at the NAMM show in June . The Twin Twelve pedal can be dimed in for subtle distortion , clean preamp tones or as a boost pedal . The laser cut stainless steel pedal enclosure is heavy duty and the vintage Silvertone amp aesthetic on the chasis is spot on .
Even the control knobs are similar to a vintage Silvertone amp and the Amp Jewel is a nice touch too . Controls include Volume , Bass , Treble and Gain and the included card provides some suggestions for tone direction but when playing this pedal you will easily find your own . Having played through a variety of 1484 amplifiers over the years I found the pedal to be reminiscent of that sound , but with less noise from circuitry which was nice . The pedal warmed up the guitars when plugged in like some vintage amps will do . If you are looking for extreme gain and overdrive this isn ’ t the pedal for you . But if you are looking for an organic smooth amp overdrive with some gentle breakup in the all the right places , the 1484 pedal delivers .
It can certainly be utilized as a booster effect for solos , but I believe that would be limiting the true capabilities of this pedal . As a preamp pedal the Twin Twelve would be an ideal foundation to build all of your other tones off of . Then you could minimize the tone coloring of any amplifier you plug into by allowing the Silvertone 1484 to be your preamp .
This is one of the coolest and most fun guitar pedals I have plugged into in a long time . The Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve pedal is going to set a new standard for this type of effect . They have already sold out of the first run , so
