piano . And I found this interesting , because when I record this , this is Gordon Mote playing piano . He was born blind , if you know Gordon . He ’ s a session player , incredible . One of the greatest piano players of our time . And what you hear is one take first time through , he just sat down and played this song . I sing it with him . I was so moved , beyond moved . I couldn ’ t finish the song . I had to redo my part . His part was unbelievable . And what you hear is just something that is captured in a special way . I ’ m very , very proud of the recording .
[ WM ] I have to say I was fortunate to know Keith and heard him in concert multiple times . A couple of times in a band in opening up for him , or in concert . I never even heard him sing those lyrics , so that ’ s why I thought they were new . So great .
[ Chris ] You ’ re not the only one . People have said , “ I love that new part you added .” I ’ ve had so many comments and I love that because people will discover the song . And I hope that the next generation , it ’ s been 40 years since Keith passed , it ’ s the 40th year . And I hope a new generation finds that song . So many people have already said , “ Man , I love that new song you wrote .” I ’ m like , “ Yeah I didn ’ t . Yeah .” And so , helping people discover that song would be really special .
[ WM ] That ’ s wonderful . Are you still playing and enjoying Taylor Guitars ?
[ Chris ] Yes , what I enjoy most about them is Taylor ’ s heart . There are some guys in this , that work for Taylor that have a real heart for worship in the church . And they have been so supportive of me and helped me give guitars away to kids that are worship leaders . And that means more to me , I mean the guitar is amazing , but that means more to me than anything , just their heart for worship . And seeing that music come alive and through a guitar and I love , I love their guitars .
[ WM ] My last question is a little bit different . You ’ ve had a tremendous and successful impact upon the church as a songwriter , worship leader , and artist . If you had to give it all up tomorrow , the writing , touring , and recording , what would you want to do or in what capacity would you want to serve ?
[ Chris ] Man , if I had to give it all up , that would be ... I don ’ t even know what I ... it ’ s the only thing I know how to do . But the only thing I really care about that hits my first thought and gut is being a Dad . That ’ s the only thing and being with my family . Most of my life , I ’ ve spent on the road by myself single and now that I have little kids , I mean , that ’ s what I care about more
