is one of the coolest features on any of the guitars I own . Where parallel tends to add a bit of scoop , series is like a super fat humbucker that blends neck and bridge position vibes in a way that is totally awesome .
STUDIO MACHINE Another key point Justin brought up in the Zoom session was , “ Noiseless pickups are way more important now that so many people are recording .” Since that call , I ’ ve gone into preproduction for my next instrumental album and this guitar has become a real workhorse , in part because of the fact that I can get great distorted single coil tones without the noise . Yes , noiseless pickups have been around for some time , but in this guitar , they add so much to the recording experience where a traditional Tele might not be a candidate because of the noise . In combination with the tone control , the
bridge pickup delivers great sound that to my ear is fatter than my other Teles . In contrast , the neck pickup delivers classic Fender tone , and can get very Stratty when needed , especially when using vintage Fender and Marshall tones .
COMFORT IS KING While I ’ ve mentioned features like the body contour and playability of the neck , it is worth revisiting the fact that I can play this guitar for hours on end without having to reach for another instrument because of how versatile it is and how comfortable it is to play . The modern ‘ C ’ shape on the neck means that I can comfortably play with my thumb wrapped around the neck unlike instruments with a more pronounced shoulder . Not having to shift hand position as you move between chords , bends , and pentatonic runs is a big deal in my book .
THE WRAP Like many of the players I know , I don ’ t just play guitar in church . If you ’ re looking for a Tele that does a great job of affordably bridging the gap between genres , I recommend you check out the Fender Play Plus Telecaster . I love this guitar !
